What does the investigator actually do?

When two regions agree a monitor is down, it runs read-only checks of its own: DNS lookups, TLS handshakes, HTTP requests from the control plane, the provider status pages your stack depends on, and the deploys and changes recorded before the trouble began. It answers with one sentence on what's wrong, the steps to fix it, and the evidence for each claim. If the evidence doesn't point anywhere, it says so rather than guess.

Will it change anything on my servers?

No. Every tool it has is read-only, and it only talks to the host you monitor and the hosts that redirects lead to.

How do you avoid false alarms?

Each monitor is checked from several regions, and an incident only opens when at least two of them agree. A blip in one region, or on one network path, doesn't page anyone.

Can my coding agent use it?

Yes. WhyDown has an MCP server and a REST API with the same keys. Claude Code, Cursor and VS Code can add monitors, read incidents and diagnoses, post status page notices and pause checks during a deploy.

I already use UptimeRobot, Better Stack or Pingdom.

Paste an API key on the import page and WhyDown brings your monitors across, then tries each one before saving it.

What happens when I hit a Free limit?

Your existing monitors keep running. WhyDown tells you which limit you reached, and you can upgrade from Settings whenever you like. Moving back to Free pauses the newest monitors over the limit and turns off your status page's custom domain. Nothing is deleted.
